KNOTT delivers industrial brakes for a lot of different industry sectors. These involve mainly agricultural machines and equipment, construction and mining machinery, military vehicles, airport ground support equipment, municipal vehicles, forklift trucks and manipulators, as well as many other, often even specialised solutions – virtually everything that moves outside of the common road traffic. Our product range is huge, since we tailor every design to the given application. Therefore, you can be sure, that from over 2000 base designs, we will always find the right brake for you. Based on a long-time experience and technical know-how, our industrial brakes satisfy the highest demands.
Robust cam brakes offer the advantage, that besides the mechanical actuation, they also can be actuated hydraulically or pneumatically by the use of external cylinders. The combination of a service brake and a parking one is thus made possible.
Cam brakes are mainly used as parking brakes. But they may also be found in trailers with pneumatic brake systems, where they act as a combined service and parking brake in an S-cam version.
Available sizes: Ø 115 mm – Ø 500 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 35 000 Nm
Wedge-actuated brakes are available as simplex and duplex designs. The actuation takes place via a bolted-on pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder. An additional parking brake function is possible with the use of spring pack cylinders.
Wedge-actuated brakes are mainly used in commercial vehicles and are characterised by their fast response times. Therefore, these brakes are well suited for use as part of ABS systems.
Available sizes: Ø 410 mm – Ø 500 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 40 000 Nm
Spread lever brakes are designed for actuation by a linkage or an externally mountable brake cable, and can be used for both service and parking brake functions. With optionally integrated auto-reverse function, these brakes are frequently used on lightweight trailers.
Available sizes: Ø 160 mm – Ø 300 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 6 000 Nm
Simplex brakes are characterised by a fixed brake-shoe support at the bottom. This enables a zero-play parking brake function. Another advantage is the constant coefficient, making for a good controllability.
The hydraulic simplex brake is the most common brake. It is used in almost all applications.
Available sizes: Ø 160 mm – Ø 500 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 25 000 Nm
Servo brakes are distinguished by a movable brake-shoe support (usually at the bottom), over which the frictional force of the leading brake shoe is transmitted to the trailing brake shoe. This design allows to achieve high breaking torques with low operating forces.
Servo brakes are used where large masses need to be braked, but the installation space is limited, as with forklift trucks.
Available sizes: Ø 170 mm – Ø 440 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 25 000 Nm

These systems are highly controllable, have constant coefficients and are not affected by either temperature or speed fading. This refers to all of our disc brakes. Whether we select it from our standard range or offer a custom solution, it will always fully meet your needs. Here is a brief overview:
These brakes employ a brake lever that is controlled externally, either by a pneumatic or a hydraulic cylinder, by a spring-pack cylinder, or eventually via a control cable or linkage with a hand-brake lever.
Mechanical sliding callipers are used as parking and auxiliary brakes.
Available sizes: MGS 22, MGS 33, MGS 40, MGS 45 and MZB 40
Max. braking torque: up to 6 000 Nm
The application of the operating force in hydraulic sliding calliper disc brake takes place one-sided via one or more pistons. The operating force of the opposite side is produced by the reaction force of the sliding calliper, which is supported by the brake pads on the disc.
This design makes it possible for the brakes to be mounted deeper within the wheel rim. Generally, this brake design is suitable for on-road applications with restricted installation space. Typical applications are in municipal vehicles, airport equipment, trailers etc.
Available sizes: 1 or 2 pistons with diameter of 40 – 72 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 10 000 Nm
These brakes are characterised by a fixed connection with the wheel suspension. The braking force on the brake disc is produced by at least two pistons mounted in opposition.
The advantage: In contrast to floating or sliding callipers, fixed-calliper disc brakes have no sliding elements and can be used off-road or generally in very dirty environments.
Available sizes: 2, 4 or 6 pistons with diameter of 40 – 92 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 120 000 Nm
These brakes work according to the “fail safe” principle, which means in a normal operating state of the vehicle, the brake is released by a constant pressure supply. If there is a pressure drop, safe braking is ensured by the spring pack.
Spring-pack sliding calliper brakes are especially suitable as service and auxiliary brakes mounted on gearbox output flanges and final drive flanges. The encapsulated design is ideal for off-road applications.
Available sizes: piston diameter of 75 – 110 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 9 500 Nm
These brakes offer not only a service brake function but also an integrated parking brake function. The application of operating force is one-sided, either hydraulically via the service brake piston or mechanically via the brake lever. The operating force on the other side is produced via the reaction force of the sliding calliper.
One important advantage of our bakes is the reinforced components of the parking brake unit, which allow the vehicle to be held even on extreme slopes. The brakes are therefore mainly used in construction machinery and special vehicles.
Available sizes: piston diameter of 44 – 56 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 2 600 Nm
The actuation of a pneumatic disc brake takes place one-sided by an external diaphragm cylinder. The operating force of the opposite side is produced via the reaction force of the sliding calliper. The advantages over conventional systems are particularly a compact design, easy maintenance, and a stable braking performance.
Applications for pneumatic disc brakes are found in heavy commercial on-road vehicles such as lorries, busses, mobile cranes as well as in trailers.
Available sizes: PGS 15 and PGS 22
Max. braking torque: up to 25 000 Nm

The KNOTT oil-bath multi-disc brakes operate according to the ball ramp principle and are available as multi-servo and mono-servo versions. The actuation can take place using a pressure wedge, tension wedge or a pull tab principle. Various friction material qualities, the number of discs, as well as differing ramp and wedge angles allow for a wide range of variants. Thereby, braking performance and braking comfort can be fine-tuned to meet the demands of a given vehicle.
Combined with suitable KNOTT actuation cylinders, service brakes as well as parking and auxiliary brakes may be realised, that are either manually actuated, power assisted or use a power braking system. Not only mechanical or hydraulic, but also a combined hydraulic-mechanical or a spring-loaded cylinder actuation is possible. This allows not only a pure parking or service brake function, but also combinations of service, parking and auxiliary braking functions.
Wet multi disc brakes are mainly used in agricultural tractors, harvesters, forestry machines and construction equipment.
Available sizes:
Pull-actuated - Ø 5,6“ to 9,5“
Push-actuated - Ø 6,5“ to 16“

Electromagnetic brakes can be designed not only as positive but also as negative brakes. Actuation of the brake thus occurs by the supply of current or by interrupting the current supply respectively.
These brakes are used predominantly in applications with electric drives, such as ground conveyors, industrial trucks or electric vehicles, but also for a range of industrial applications.
KNOTT offers electromagnetic brakes in association with its Indian joint venture partner Vortex, under the name KNOTT-Vortex. Vortex is a specialist manufacturer of clutches and electromagnetic brakes.
Available sizes: Ø 37 mm – Ø 500 mm
Max. braking torque: up to 1 500 Nm
